I was shocked and saddened by the news of Bernie Mac’s sudden passing, yesterday. Bernie Mac, born Bernard Jeffrey McCullogh in Chicago, was one of my favorite comedians of all time thanks to his jokes based on his life experiences. I still remember his classic monologue on camera in Spike Lee’s 2001 movie The Original Kings of Comedy where he criticized Hollywood’s reticence on giving him a television show on primetime despite being regarded as one of the top stand-up comedians in the business through his famous quote “Ain’t scared of y’all muthafuckas”, his notable appearances at HBO’s Def Comedy Jam as well as his primetime show on Fox from 2001-2006. He has to be placed among the greats due to his honest social commentaries in his sketch.
He’ll be sorely missed by all of us. Rest in Peace, Bernie.
