Whitey on the moon: Moon landing 40 years later

It was on this day; 40 years ago that the Apollo 11 mission would propel Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin into history books as they became the first men to have stepped into the ground of the moon on July 20, 1969.  Through M. Armstrong’s iconic words, “A small step for a man, a giant leap for mankind”, the mission has opened the door to numerous space exploration opportunities for NASA and other organization of its kind worldwide such as the construction of International Space Station and a possible human mission to planet Mars.  It’s obvious that the goal is to find life in a new planet besides planet Earth.

Is this anniversary important at the moment?  The answer is no.  In these hard times, how can we celebrate this event when our planet is getting mess up everyday thanks to our carefree way of life?  It is shameful that governments are using billions of our taxes to finance ludicrous space project while having complete disregard for us, the people of planet Earth.

This is why the poem Whitey on the Moon by Gil Scott-Heron is so relevant because of its criticism on the US government for spending billions on the space program while ignoring social issues. I hope that President Obama concentrates on social issues than working on financing more wasteful NASA mission.

L’inauguration de Barack Obama: Honte à Vous, Stephen Harper!

Encore une fois, notre cher premier ministre Harper vient de montrer son vrai visage lorsqu’il a annoncé, par l’entremise de son cabinet, qu’il n’assistera pas à l’investiture du 44è Président des États-Unis Barack Obama, demain midi.  C’est scandaleux de voir un chef d’état canadien refuser d’aller assister à l’inauguration de chef d’état le plus important de la planète et ton plus gros partenaire économique.  Pour en rajouter, monsieur a décidé d’envoyer le ministre de l’immigration, Jason Kenney, au lieu de la Gouverneure-Général Michaelle Jean ou du ministre des affaires extérieures Lawrence Cannon??

Franchement,  Stephen Harper vient de nous prouver qu’il est indigne de nous représenter comme premier ministre et le fait que son bon ami G.W. Bush n’est plus à la présidence et que son candidat favori John McCain ait échoué dans sa tentative de se faire élire à la Maison Blanche  nous confirme que son refus d’assister aux festivités de mardi se base purement par amertume et mépris envers Barack Obama.

C’est vraiment dommage qu’on n’ait pas entendu Michael Ignatieff sur cette histoire parce qu’honnêtement s’il y a vraiment matière à chasser Harper du pouvoir, c’est bien pour cet affront envers le nouveau président.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, LET ME INTRODUCE PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA

It’s official !!!  It’s official, brothers and sisters.  History has been made.  Sen. Barack Obama has won the presidential election by defeating the Republican candidate Sen. John McCain of Arizona by a wide margin in the electoral vote, making him the 44th President of the United States of America­.  The first ever African-American to hold the highest position in world politics.   This is more than history in a making.  It’s the beginning of the new dawn for the people who believe in true democracy.

For one, I’ll be preparing my trip to DC to attend the inauguration of his mandate on January 20, 2009.  I hope everyone who read this post will follow.

Indeed, the United States of America and the world will never be the same.
